Four-star Indianapolis receiver commits to IU DYLAN SINN | The Journal Gazette Indiana football s 2022 recruiting class is shaping up to be the best in program history by a fairly wide margin – at least since the modern era of ranking classes began in the late 1990s – and the Hoosiers added another huge commitment Wednesday. On Wednesday afternoon, four-star Lawrence North wide receiver Omar Cooper chose the Hoosiers over offers from West Virginia, Iowa and Michigan State, among others. Cooper is the 214th-ranked recruit in the country, per 247sports.com, and the No. 5 player in Indiana in his class. “It felt like home,” Cooper tells 247Sports of why he committed to IU. “The coaches were amazing, Tom Allen was just very impressive just how he is and his energy I loved it. I also liked (co-offensive coordinator/wide receivers) Coach (Grant) Heard’s energy too and how real he keeps it. He will tell you the truth no matter what.”

When Stephen Carr was overwhelming defenses at Summit High School in Fontana, Calif., he was pursued by every school that thought it had even a glimmer at a chance at landing him. A five-star recruit who rushed for 2,123 yards and 31 touchdowns as a senior, Carr not only got scholarship offers from nine of the schools in the Pac-12, but also Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Miami, Michigan, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Oklahoma and Tennessee. He was named an All-American by PrepStar and MaxPreps, not to mention All-California by USA Today. But as a kid from southern California, he only wanted to play for Southern California. His high school was an hour away from Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and USC was the only team he’d ever rooted for.

Three of his sons, Deland II (Miami Ohio transfer), Dasan (2022 recruiting class) and Daeh (2023), each announced last month that they’ll join IU’s program in the near future. And in the coming weeks, one of McCullough’s former pupils at Southern California may also consider Bloomington a worthy stop in his college football journey.
