The Police in Rivers state have on Friday arrested a member of a three-man gang who robbed 37 worshipers returning from crossover service at Rumuodara, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the state.
The nabbed suspect, identified as Ndubuisi Igwe aka SS Chief was in possession of a locally-made pistol that was recovered by the police, while his two gang members who escaped carried AK 47 rifles.
It was learnt that the gunmen injured two of their victims who put up resistance during the robbery and were later taken to a hospital for treatment.
A spokesman for the state police command, Nnamdi Omoni, who confirmed the incident said the suspect had been placed under protective custody, adding that the police had also launched a manhunt for the fleeing gang members as the suspect was furnishing the police with vital information that would lead to the arrest of the other suspects.

There was palpable tension in Luubara, Khana Local Government Area of Rivers State on Tuesday as gunmen invaded the community and shot dead two men at a pub.
Residents expressed shock at the development, noting that the community used to be peaceful.
It was learnt that the assailants attacked the pub around 8pm after some of the residents went there to relax after a masquerader display earlier in the day.
A native of the community, Nwibani Barry, told our correspondent that four persons were shot by the assailants, two died on the spot, while the other two were taken to hospital by the Bori Divisional Police Officer for treatment.

A cross-section of Port Harcourt residents in Rivers State on Monday appealed to Governor Nyesom Wike not to lock down the state, but to ban influx of foreigners in order to curb the rise of second wave of COVID-19 in the state.
The appeal followed the state governor’s threat on Sunday to impose a fresh lockdown on the state from January 2021 due to rising COVID-19 infections.
A Port Harcourt resident, who identified herself as Ibisaki, told our correspondent that restricting travellers into the state would effectively curb the rise of infections than grounding residents’ movement and the state economy.

A cross-section of Port Harcourt residents in Rivers State has on Monday appealed to the Governor, Nyesom Wike, not to lock down the state but to ban the influx of foreigners in order to curb the second wave of COVID-19 in the state.
The appeal of the residents followed the state governor’s promise to impose a fresh lockdown in the state from January 2021, due to the rising COVID-19 infections.
Wike gave the hint on Sunday during the thanksgiving church service to mark the 90th birthday of Mrs. Priscilla Nwanediye Mark at St. Martin’s Anglican Church, Omagwa in Ikwerre Local Government Area of of the state.
