In Celtic mythology there is no hell, but rather an Otherworld inhabited by the Tuatha Dé Danann, and the Dark Lord Donn, who welcomes the souls of the dead.
duncan: how do you like that music? finally tonight, ireland has long been the land of fairies and fairy tales but believe it or not it is also the home of halloween. cbs ian lee ventures deep into the countryside to find its origins. reporter: there s something spooky hidden among these hills, green and lush, almost heavenly, but buried here it is a portal to another world, another dimension some call it a gate to hell. ireland, ireland s door or entrance on to hell. reporter: it is also the birthplace of halloween or as the irish call it, samhain. that s the night traditionally where the borders, where this world and the other world are completely open. it is not a place you have to die in order to access.
