Marcus Emms, who has been performing duties as the town crier for three years, published a personal post about his son in which he jokingly used the term pikey . Mr Emms - who also attends events for free as Father Christmas - said the word was a nick name for his son, which is used within his family only.

RSPCA branch auction off Alan Davies coat worn on Dog Rescuers

Alan Davies coat from Dog Rescuers last Christmas A RED parka coat worn by Alan Davies on the Channel 5 hit show Dog Rescuers is being auctioned off by the RSPCA Lancashire East branch. The comedian, TV presenter and actor who also famously starred in murder mystery series Jonathan Creek, presents the Dog Rescuers - a programme which follows the RSPCA inspectors as they rescue dogs in need. This year, to help raise funds for the branch, the producers of the show Middlechild have kindly donated the actual jacket from the Christmas special last year. Samantha Bowles, deputy manager of the RSPCA charity shop in St James Street, Burnley, said: “We know there are lots of Dog Rescuers fans out there who have watched the programme for years and will recognise the red parka from last year’s Christmas special so we decided to auction it off to raise funds to help animals locally.
