GWH chief expects it will take two years for hospital to deal with waiting lists | Wilts and Gloucestershire Standard

It will take at least two years for Great Western Hospital to deal with waiting lists, its chief executive has said. Kevin McNamara told the borough council the number of patients being treated for Covid has reduced but remains higher than the peak in the first wave back in March-April time. The hospital expanded its intensive care unit into operating theatres to cope with the growing demand. He said: “The move into theatre space meant we had to take the difficult decision to cancel non-urgent elective surgery. This is always a last resort and we are very conscious of the length of time some patients have now been waiting following cancellations in the first wave of the pandemic.
