Sri Lanka could face multi-hour power cuts, blackouts in large parts of the grid and water shortages in Colombo if the current policy of avoiding one hour load shedding at any cost is continued, industry watchers familiar with the ground situation have warned.
ILLEGAL DOLOMITE MINE RAIDED

Colombo (News 1st); Geological Survey and Mines Bureau raided an illegal Dolomite mine which was operating in Pallebedda, Embilipitiya.
GSMB Chairman Anura Walpola speaking to News 1st said the timely detection of the illegal mine prevented massive environmental destruction.
He said the mine had moved around 60 meters inside a mountain in a very unsafe and dangerous manner, adding when the rain took place around 06 Tipper Truck filled with mined dolomite were at the premises.
Had the mine operated unnoticed, the Udawalawa and Samanala Wewa reservoirs would be threatened, he added.
