SEALE Pinson Valley offensive coordinator Dillon Griggs has accepted a head coaching position.
The Russell County School Board on Tuesday approved the hiring of Griggs as the next head football coach at Russell County High School. He will replace Mark Rose, who retired last December following an 0-9 season that included four forfeits.
The Warriors compete in Class 6A, Region 2 alongside Opelika, Eufaula, Park Crossing and others.
“Excited to be a part of the (Russell County) program,” wrote Griggs on Twitter. “Can’t wait to get started #RiseUp #NewEra.”
Griggs was brought on to join Pinson Valley head coach Sam Shade’s staff in April of 2020. In his one year calling plays, the Indians scored nearly 30 points per game en route to the Class 6A state championship. Pinson Valley (12-2) wrapped up the season with a 23-13 victory over Spanish Fort in Tuscaloosa.

PINSON Students at Kermit Johnson Elementary School and sixth graders at Rudd Middle School were greeted by members of the 6A State Championship football team as they arrived for school on Friday. The Pinson Valley High School Indians football players opened doors and welcomed the younger students as they pulled in by car and bus.
According to the Kermit Johnson administration, the players also helped with morning announcements and later headed into classrooms where they read books to students.
“Some of our football players did a great job this morning surprising the young students at Kermit Johnson Elementary and the Rudd 6th graders by welcoming them to school this morning and then reading to them in class,” PVHS Coach Sam Shade said via social media.

PINSON It’s been more than six weeks since Zach Pyron fired the go-ahead touchdown pass to Ga’Quincy McKinstry, but the memories remain fresh for Pinson Valley fans.
That much was certain on Saturday morning as the Indian faithful gathered once more in Willie Adams Stadium to celebrate their 2020 state football champions.
“This was great for the players, our coaches, the band was here, our cheerleaders and our fans, so it was great to experience,” said Pinson Valley head football coach Sam Shade. “We weren’t able to do it in December but it was good to have it today and it was a pretty nice day for it.”

Virginia Tech football coach Justin Fuente, who we learned Tuesday would return for a sixth season, on Wednesday welcomed a 2021 recruiting class that isn’t getting a whole lot of love from the recruiting services.
There is one four-star player – tight end Jack Hollifield, the younger brother of current Tech linebacker Dax Hollifield.
