and the usmca announcement today is a definitive sign i think that they re going to try something different. here to talk with me about whether that s the right strategy co-host of the boxer podcast and sam seeder, host of the majority report and msnbc contributor. sam, let me start with you. do you think this is good idea? i do. i think it s a big win for the democrats. i think nancy pelosi gets it. when you have president trumpka of the afl-cio praised this deal and there are reasons for that, you know it s good when you have environmentalists saying we ve come a long way, when you have consumer protection people saying here way. hooray. the generics are going to compete with big pharma. you ve got something here. and we all know without nancy pelosi and the way she handled this, this wouldn t have gotten done. so i think it s a terrific strategy. she protects, you know, her moderates, she ll keep control.
and we already see the right wing attacking it over in the senate. it s going to cause mitch mcconnell, you know, a lot of acid-producing luncheons. it is true i will say that mitch mcconnell had very like tepid did he see his quote today it s not as good as i thought it would be and we re going to take a recess? what do you think, sam, on the strategy of this about whether this makes sense or not? well, i think the deal is a decent deal. it s a marginal improvement over nafta. but when richard is used in ad i think that s going to make a big difference and not in favor of democrats. i mean, this the 2018 election was so huge for the democrats to win was won on negative partisanship. people were coming out to vote against donald trump. so you had an election where you had plus-8 democrat performance,
but i think everything s going to change in the debate. look, in our event a couple months ago, we saw if elizabeth warren presented and rolled out a comprehensive policy strategy on black maternal health. sounds niche and specific, but it s important to everyone. it s a very important issue to black women, to women of color. so we see these are kind of issues that the core voters are looking for, policy specific, and some of those top people in the poll like buttigieg have really got to get their game on in terms of coming up with really specific policy platforms and ideas. people are not looking to be in the muddy middle. they re looking for bold policies that ll take us not only to beat trump but beyond. you think, sam, we have 15 seconds. do you think this 20 plus candidates makes it to january?
running a campaign as of he doesn t need women of color, everything from the non-apology to anita hill and the mishandling with the lucy flores allegations and the hyde amendment where he recently flip-flopped. all those speak to important issues to women of color. i said then and i say now no one is going to win the primary without enthusiastic support of women of color. on the other hand, we look at warren who is organizing her campaign, really speaking to the base, and you can see she started out a couple months ago at our forum. many people were discounting her, thought her campaign was dead in the water. look at her now. she made her case and impressed 2,000 women of color who are singing her praises from the rooftop. her momentum is picking up steam. where joe biden will continue to drop unless he makes major changes in his campaign strategy. now, it s early yet, sam, so
ready for big structural change in this country. [ cheers ] they re ready for change and i got a plan for that. they re all enthusiastic. those are just four of the 19 different democratic presidential candidates who showed up at the iowa 2019 hall of fame event this weekend. joining me now, david wiegle, national political respondent for the washington post. aimee allison, founder of she the people, which held its own presidential forum in april. msnbc contributor sam seeder, host of the majority report and ring of fire radio. welcome to all of you. dave, i m going to start with you. you are there on the ground. what s the feeling? it looks very energetic the pieces we added together and put on tv. i thought your segment about the des moines register poll, elizabeth warren is getting large crowds, audiences that are signing up to support her. they can change their minds, but
