The Biden administration has completed its first four months in office and the economic data has started to arrive. An early assessment does not paint a pretty picture. Let’s start with the jobs situation. April hiring, which was expected to be at a million, ended up at 266,000. Meanwhile, the number of job openings ballooned to 8.12 million. In other words, jobs are there but employers are having a tough time filling those jobs.

Nevada needs meaningful election reforms

Nevada needs meaningful election reforms | Sam Kumar Sam Kumar This opinion column was submitted by RGJ columnist Sam Kumar, former chair of the Washoe County Republican Party. In the 2020 election cycle, in a special session, using COVID related emergency powers, by a partisan vote in both chambers, Nevada’s Democrat legislators passed Assembly Bill 4. This bill allowed for a mostly mail-in ballot and legalized a process called ballot harvesting, which was until then a felony. Ballot harvesting allowed non-family members including party workers to collect and turn in ballots. In the current legislative session, Assembly Bill 321 attempts to make most of those “emergency” provisions permanent. There are far more important reforms that the state Legislature should focus on instead of blindly mailing ballots to anyone without it even being requested, and this column outlines some of those reforms.
