Dear Fellow Windsor Resident,
Events in our community over the past 11-months have forced the City of Windsor to take extraordinary measures to deal with the ever-changing landscape related to the Covid-19 global pandemic.
Provincial lockdowns that started in December mandated closure of the Windsor International Aquatic & Training Centre (WIATC) and all other indoor sport facilities for all users. I understand the rhythm an athlete finds when training on a regular schedule. I had that focus and determination myself when I was a swimmer and coached by Windsor’s own Lou Pocock. In short, I know this situation is just horrible for many of you.
Austin and Travis County area first emergency workers say they are being flooded with calls requesting medical services and reporting broken water pipes amid severe winter weather in the region.
Captain Darren Noak, a spokesman for Austin-Travis County EMS, said the emergency crews have received more than 1,200 calls for service as of 9:30 p.m. I ve been here 25 years and this is the busiest, Noak said. I ve never seen calls over 1,200. On a busy day with a special event, 500 or 600, maybe. We re keeping busy, that s for sure.
While medics continue to respond to medical emergencies, the Austin Fire Department said they were getting an overwhelming number of calls about broken water pipes.
Half foot of snow reported in Central Texas, knocking out power to thousands
Several inches of snow fell throughout Central Texas on Sunday, knocking out power to thousands of residents while welcoming a reprieve from pandemic-induced mundaneness for many.
A winter storm warning was in effect through midnight Sunday for Travis, Llano, Burnet, Williamson, Bastrop and Lee counties, advising the half foot of snow that would accumulate in some areas in the region. Starting in the morning and lasting until late afternoon, residents from multiple counties shared images of blankets of white covering lawns, roads and other inanimate surfaces. One to 2 inches of snow were expected in most areas of Austin on Sunday, according to the National Weather Service.
