Cebu livelihood federation bolsters self-reliance

CEBU CITY - The Department of Labor and Employment in Central Visayas (DOLE-7) has led the creation of a federation for livelihood organizations in Northern Cebu to create a community enterprise and encourage self-reliance in their livelihood. DOLE-7 announced this on Thursday following the Sustainable Livelihood Framework (SLF) orientation it organized in Medellin which was attended by around 28 representatives from different associations from the northern towns. SLF is the department's strategic approach towards the effective and efficient livelihood program to achieve the national goal of inclusive growth, DOLE-7 regional director Salome Siaton said in a statement. CEBU CITY - The Department of Labor and Employment in Central Visayas (DOLE-7) has awarded a livelihood grant of PHP500,000 to the Small Coconut Farmers and Farm Workers Association of Tabuelan town in northern Cebu. The grant provides working capital to support the association's cattle fattening project, with 15 heads of cattle as a starter, DOLE-7 regional director Salome Siaton said in a statement on Friday. Aside from this project, the association is also engaged in cattle dispersal, and free-range chicken and goat raising. The cattle fattening project was chosen for the grant because of the sufficiency of resources and guaranteed market. CEBU CITY - Almost 500 workers in the construction sector in Mandaue City, Cebu and Dumaguete in Negros Oriental have received their first dose of coronavirus disease (Covid-19) vaccine, the Department of Labor and Employment in Central Visayas (DOLE-7) said on Thursday. In a statement, DOLE-7 said it successfully conducted on Wednesday the simultaneous inoculation rollout in the two cities, the first identified local government units (LGU) to host its vaccination program. Around 179 workers received their vaccination in Mandaue City while some 263 workers got their jabs at the Robinsons Place Dumaguete and Barangay Pulantubig covered court in Dumaguete City.
