Prince William and Kate Middleton took a trip down memory lane on Wednesday when they returned to the college where their relationship started.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge donned their very best prep looks when they hit the University of St. Andrews and spent their time speaking with students in St. Salvator’s quad and took part in the royal tradition of planting a tree.
Surely the university was aware the lovebirds ignited their romance at St. Andrews some 20 years ago as the grass located on the lawn at the student quad had been decorated with large heart shapes painted on the grass, according to People magazine.
The principal of the University of St Andrews, Professor Sally Mapstone, has suggested that St Andrews should be allowed to join the Oxford-Cambridge Boat Race.
Her remarks came after St Andrews, Scotland’s oldest seat of learning, relegated the University of Cambridge to third place in The Guardian University Guide for 2021 by their coming in second.
Professor Mapstone, who studied and taught at Oxford, and previously served as its Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Education, Personnel and Equality, said: “It’s interesting to break the Oxbridge duopoly. Obviously, that gives me a particular pleasure.”
When speaking to The Saint, a student newspaper at St Andrews, Professor Mapstone added: “I have thought about suggesting that they turn the boat race into a three-way competition in future.”

Universities search for the new normal after Brexit
German and United Kingdom representatives of universities and higher education organisations have discussed the post-Brexit future of UK-German academic relations, including how to plug the glaring gap in the UK’s Turing Scheme, the replacement for participation in the European Union’s mobility and exchange scheme Erasmus+.
The discussions took place in a virtual talk organised by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and prepared by the DAAD Competence Centre for International Academic Collaborations (KIWi), and coincided with the presentation of DAAD propositions on future cooperation with the UK. Erasmus+ scholarships for UK-German student exchange will still be available for the next two years.
