John Stevensâ Room for Living
During lockdown, the seasoned local guitarist finally found the space to do something heâd never done: record a solo album.

Stevens: âIt occurred to me that in all the years and years of playing and being in different bands â jazz, funk, reggae-rock, a pretty wide gamut of genres â what Iâve actually played most is at home alone with an acoustic guitar.â

As one of the more gifted guitarists around town, John Stevens has been lending his talents to numerous local artists for more than two decades. His resume features the likes of Carey Wolff, Sally Majestic, and Confusatron to name just three. Most recently, in perhaps his most notable gig, heâd been the touring guitarist backing Lannie Flowers, former frontman for â80s power pop icons The Pengwins, through his resurgence in recent years.

ALG’s new album is the sound of the band “working together.” That’s according to multi-instrumentalist Austin Gardea (Squeezebox Bandits).
Oh, K is the instrumental prog rockers’ fourth studio album since forming in 2018, and, as with the group’s discography, other local musicians have added to the team effort, Gardea said. Along with two permanent members, drummer Tim Cowdin (Sally Majestic) and guitarist Alex Hunter, Gardea was joined by a bunch of friends, he said, including Pete Alvidrez on synths and Squeezebox Bandits frontman Abel Casillas on squeezebox.
