REUTERS/Henry Nicholls Read More LONDON, July 8 (Reuters) - Visitors will be able to meander unaccompanied through the gardens of Queen Elizabeth s London home for the first time from Friday - and enjoy a picnic while they re there. There have previously been guided tours of Buckingham Palace s 39-acre grounds, whose current landscape dates back to 1820. But this year a 16.50 pound ($22.70) ticket, available until September, will allow tourists to explore the gardens by themselves.

The Buckingham Palace garden is opening to the public for picnics and self-guided tours for the first time on Friday. Such has been the demand for tickets that additional places have been made available on dates throughout July to September. Tourists will be able to picnic on the sweeping lawns and explore the garden themselves. The route encompasses the 156-metre Herbaceous Border, the Horse Chestnut Avenue, plane trees planted by and named after Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, and views of the island and its beehives across the 3.5-acre lake. A new range of summertime picnic-inspired products has also been launched by the Royal Collection Trust to coincide with the opening at the Queen’s London home.
