Daisy Gomez-Fuentes listened in awe to an audio-visual recording of Chicano activist Rudy Acuña speaking to a group of Cal State Fullerton students in May 1974. The lecture gave her insights into the Chicano Movement of the 1960s and ’70s. “He spoke about the cultural conflicts that Chicanx students faced in academia,” said Gomez-Fuentes, a Chicana and Chicano studies major and daughter of Mexican immigrants.

(California State University) A group of Cal State LA students was selected for the 2020-21 Sally Casanova pre-doctoral scholar awards, which are granted each year to support the doctoral aspirations of students across the 23-campus California State University (CSU) system. Each scholar receives a $3,000 award to help fund graduate exams, fees for professional conferences and other costs related to graduate school. Here are Cal State LA s 2020-21 Casanova Scholars:
