A pilot was forced to make an emergency landing Friday morning when their aircraft lost power after taking off from the Salisbury Regional Airport.
Maryland State Police received a call at about 11 a.m. from Wicomico County administrators reporting that a private plane had declared an emergency after taking off from the airport, according to a news release.
The pilot attempted to return to the airport, police said, but had to perform a power off controlled landing next to the airport property instead.
A preliminary investigation has revealed that the single engine 1970 NAVION H left the airport via runway 32 and then lost power, prompting the pilot to declare an emergency with the tower.

Investigators are looking for the driver of a vehicle they believe struck and killed a 14-year-old boy Sunday night and then fled the scene of the Salisbury crash.
A Maryland State Police news release shows troopers from the Salisbury Barrack responded around 11:30 p.m. to a home off Outten Road after parents requested help looking for their 14-year-old son who had gone out for a walk and didn t come back.
Troopers searching on foot around the 800 block of Parker Road heard a sound that drew them to the nearby bypass. They found the boy lying unconscious on the shoulder of the bypass south of Center Road, according to the release.
