Saline County chooses Hutton as Expo Center project manager
After negotiating a long-term lease with the city of Salina for use of the land, Saline County has chosen a project manager for updates to the Livestock and Expo Center.
The Saline County Board of Commissioners voted to approve a contract with Hutton Construction for its project management services.
The lease with the city has requirements that the county make several improvements to the facility in the first five years and keep up with maintenance throughout the lease. Staff did move forward with seeking requests for project management services to help us with completing those projects as well as looking at helping us with some long-term master planning, said Hannah Stambaugh, deputy county administrator.
Wayne County’s second drive-through COVID vaccination clinic was held Friday morning at the Wayne County Fairgrounds and was well attended. Gates opened at around 7 a.m., an hour earlier than scheduled, with reports of people lined up as early as 4 a.m. Gates to the fairgrounds were closed around 7:45 a.m. once officials had a count of the number of people inside. Vaccine vouchers were distributed Friday, and the department says it has chosen to conduct clinics in this manner due to the lack of staff to handle the volume of calls for a reservation-based clinic and still maintain core services elsewhere.
With the turning of the calendar to a new year, the Saline County Board of Commissioners reorganized its leadership during its meeting Tuesday.
Commissioner Rodger Sparks was selected as the board s new chairman, with Commissioner Jim Weese chosen as vice chairman.
Commissioner Mike White made the motions to nominate both Sparks and Weese to their roles with 5-0 votes for both positions. White originally nominated outgoing chairman Bob Vidricksen as the secretary, but Vidricksen declined the nomination and in turn nominated White to the position. I ve been an officer for three years, Vidricksen said.
Vidricksen noted it was time for a change in leadership for the commission. White was selected as the secretary by a 4-1 vote, with himself as the lone nay vote, to the laughter of his fellow commissioners.
