we saw a bipartisan group of seven u.s. senators travel to ukraine to show solidarity with that ally of ours in that dangerous time. today we saw the u.s. secretary of state fly to ukraine as well. now we re told that on friday secretary blinken is due to meet with his russian counterpart yet again to try to stop russia from starting this war that they are threatening. but again, nobody knows russia s real intentions other than the fact that we all definitely know that they are loving the attention, loving the uncertainty and upset they re causing and loving the way they re terrorizing the ukrainian people and alies into expecting russian tanks to start rolling at any moment. watch this space. start rolling at any moment. rolling at any moment. watch this spaceled for the third time. orrr. you could use slack. and work faster with everyone you work with, together in one place. slack. where the future works.
macron s efforts to try to satisfy the security needs of russia, which is his way of talking about ukraine can t join nato, nato s got to pull back its expansion. these are nonnegotiable dmablds that he s made, but he s already trying to put that on the table. you also really had an interesting take in your piece today in the new york times about antony blinken s tony blinken s first year as secretary of state and how, you know, since the afghan withdrawal in particular, he s really been on the line with all those early efforts for months to reassure the alies the u.s. is strong. this was really undercut with the nato allies who were in afghanistan and many were concerned about their people getting out and about the evacuation itself. reporter: absolutely, andrea. you know, some of these trips i would go on with secretary
two, three week, he actually has shown what an american president can do when, instead of constantly, like, crapping on your allies, you actually work constructively with them, bring them together, and have everybody shoulder to shoulder. it seems to be making a real difference. i think vladimir putin clearly underestimated the united states and president biden. piece by piece by piece, this has been pretty textbook. everything from providing oil and gas to the europeans so they re less energy dependent on russia. obviously, deployments to nato countries, the arms to ukraine, the threats of sanctions, but keeping open the diplomatic so-called off-ramp. this has been carefully orchestrated. this is not the cisis vladimir putin was hoping for, i think, when he initiated it several months ago. think about the weapons that have been sent to alies that are on the border of russia. again, troops going into poland.
other nato alies on this issue. we have not in any way opposed the polish government, providing these jets to ukraine, and we re working, as you noted, to see how we can backfill for them. could u.s. jets be provided to poland and those nations? we re still in discussions with the poles on that issue. but it, too, is an issue of training, right? the ukrainian pilots are trained on, say, the mig-29s, perhaps not on the more the latest, you know, u.s. jets available. time is of the essence. so they are going to need planes that the pilots are ready to fly. do you know anything about how many ukrainian pilots might be available to fly any jets that might be donated? i think they have the pilots. we re not talking about a huge number of planes.
president trump. the firestorm is mostly on conservative media with right i saying hillary clinton paid somebody to have president trump spied on. this does not have support. here are some alies of president trump. it goes right to the clinton campaign. stunning report from john durham s investigation. hillary clinton s campaign paid to spy on donald trump. i liken it to watergate. i see a lot of potential charges. joining me is tom winter who s been covering this story. so tom, you ve got durham now coming out and essentially well, i ll let you tell us it because it seems like he is reluctant to let his office s filing get in the middle of this political firestorm. tell us about it. reporter: i think so. the main concern by the main attorney who has pleaded not
