ISLAMABAD: China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) Authority Chairman Lieutenant General (R) Asim Saleem Bajwa on Thursday said all-out efforts are being made to speed up industrialisation under CPEC a flagship project of the Belt and Road Initiative.
Promotion of industry is a key target for CPEC which is imperative for the economic development revenue enhancement and job creation, he said.
Asim Saleem Bajwa said private investors would be encouraged for joint ventures, however, the maximum focus would be on the industries that could support import substitution or boost exports. He was talking to a delegation of leading industrialists of Islamabad, led by ICCI President Sardar Yasir Ilyas Khan. President Islamabad Industrial Association (IIA) Tariq Sadiq, Senior Vice President IIA Omais Khattak, Khalid Javed, Sheikh Amir Waheed, Chief Coordinator IAA Malik Sohail Hussain were also present at the occasion.

GWADAR (Dunya News) - Chairman of China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) Authority Lt. General (retd) Asim Saleem Bajwa has said that Gwadar port has been made fully operational and now online booking for delivery of goods can be made.
Addressing a news conference in Gwadar, Chairman CPEC Authority informed the media persons that the work on Phase-II of Gwadar Free Zone is underway and other projects connected to Gwadar Port have also been expedited in last two and a half years.
Pakistan needs to use the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor to attract foreign direct investment and promote industrial development, the country s senior officials said.
Launched in 2013, the CPEC is a corridor linking Gwadar Port in southwestern Pakistan with Kashgar in Northwest China s Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, which highlights energy, transport and industrial cooperation.
Shaukat Tarin, finance minister of Pakistan, said his country should take measures to boost the economy and attract FDI in the special economic zones being developed under the framework of the CPEC, which is a major goal of the government.
He said industrial cooperation with China in the second phase of the CPEC will not only create jobs, but generate business opportunities.
