A heroic mother who jumped into a canal to pursue a man who allegedly stole her son s boat has told how she kept chasing him down despite breaking her foot in the process.
Penelope Howard swam after the man after he allegedly used a hacksaw to cut the tinnie s padlock before taking the boat out into Mermaid Waters on the Gold Coast.
The bumbling alleged thief, 39, was later arrested at a nearby address after failing to start the tinnie s engine - with bizarre footage showing him rowing away awkwardly as the fully-clothed mum waded after him.
Ms Howard said she then broke her foot after scrambling up a rock wall in an attempt to catch the man.
