The late August Wilson is the face of a new stamp the 44th in the Black Heritage series. The postal service recently held a virtual dedication ceremony before the big reveal.

The August Wilson stamp is being issued as a Forever stamp in panes of 20. The Postal Service is honored to issue the August Wilson Forever stamp, said dedicating official Joshua Colin, vice president, Delivery Operations, U.S. Postal Service. Wilson is hailed as a trailblazer who brought fresh perspectives and previously unheard voices to the stage.

Playwright August Wilson will be honored with a commemorative Forever stamp next year.

In the late 1960s, at the threshold of the Black Arts Movement, Wilson joined a group of poets, educators, and artists who formed the Centre Avenue Poets Theater Workshop. Wilson met friend and collaborator, Rob Penny, through this group, and in 1968, they co-founded the Black Horizon Theater, a community-based, Black Nationalist Theater Company in the Hill District of Pittsburgh.
