UCHealth doctor organizes medical supply drive for India; donations allow him to ship 12 boxes

AURORA, Colo. â Personal protective equipment like gloves and gowns were in short supply at Dr. Sriram Damaraju s hospital in Hyderabad, India. He said they were beginning to resterilize and reuse gloves when a shipment arrived from his cousin who is a doctor at UCHealth. Heâs always been a very sweet guy and weâve always had a great relationship. And one day I just got a phone call from him and he said, Sriram what can I do? I said, Anything is helpful, said Dr. Damaraju.

GREENWOOD VILLAGE, Colorado (KCNC) A young mother was faced with a life-threatening pregnancy complication. She had a severe condition that could cause her to hemorrhage. She credits a team of specialists at UCHealth University of Colorado Hospital with saving her life.
The Folena family children are 4-year-old Jordan and 6-month-old Faye Marie, the most recent addition.
“She’s honestly a miracle baby in my eyes,” said Rob Folena, Faye’s father.
Desta Asfaw, Faye’s mother, is a miracle, too.
“My life was definitely on the line,” Desta told CBS4 Health Specialist Kathy Walsh.

“I am floored, I am humbled, I am speechless at the turnout we have gotten with this cause,” he said.
The first shipment of supplies is expected to reach southern India by Tuesday. Guntupalli set up a GoFundMe to offset the shipping cost for the donations, as of this writing, has raised $27,170.

I m overwhelmed at the love and support people of Colorado have shown for a country that most people are never going to visit in their life and have a very minimal connection to, but I think that human connection that idea that we want our kids to be safe, parents to be safe, neighbors to be safe is universal, Guntupalli said.
