St Osmund s students taking part in the I Am Human Walk for Refugees Year 8 students at St Osmund s School in Dorchester have been inspired to raise money for The Refugee Council UK by the experiences of three of the school s Syrian students. The Syrian youngsters, who have settled in Dorchester with their families, were forced to flee their homes in Aleppo in Syria, on foot in 2011. They walked 632 km to a refugee camp in Turkey, where they then spent six years, before coming to the UK and settling in Dorset. To honour the experience of the three Syrian students, 177 year 8 students walked five times around the school perimeter to replicate the distance walked from Aleppo to the refugee camp. Students have chosen the name: I Am Human Walk for Refugees. I, A and M are the initials of the three Syrian students St Osmund s is honouring.
