This is the cbs evening news with scott pelley. Dubois good evening. Scott is off tonight. Im maurice dubois. The Holiday Weekend is beginning in the east with a deadly storm. Hermine made landfall this morning in northern florida as a hurricane, first to hit that state since 2005. A man was killed by a fallen tree. Tonight, hermine is a tropical storm, churning up the coast with torrential rain, damaging wind, and dangerous seas. We have a team on hermines trail beginning with Omar Villafranca in port richey, florida. Reporter hurricane hermine barreled into the Sunshine State around 2 00 a. M. This morning. The deadly storm flooded entire neighborhoods. Wind gusts of up to 80 Miles Per Hour snapped trees, one of which fell on top of a homeless man, killing him. Nearly 300,000 people lost power, with power lines down in most of the state. I dont know the condition of my house. I dont know if its flooded or if it isnt. Its really, really, really bad. A 14yearold boy recovering after he was hit by a car. Police say the boy was riding his bike affiliater spending th fishing with friends and swerved to avoid hitting pedestrians. Thats when he was hit by a pickup truck. The driver stopped after the crash and is cooperating with the investigation. At this point, were not clear on how the boy is doing. Ocean city shutting down a beach to swimmers because of rough waters there. And look at video from virginia Eastern Shore the coastguard was called in to rescue three fishermen and their dog. The slowmoving system already killed at least two people including a homeless man hit by a falling tree in florida and a truck driver blown off the road in North Carolina.
