It was relatively heavily armed, but it just couldn’t handle the terrain of no man’s land.
Although the British were the first to introduce somewhat effective tanks in high numbers on the battlefields of the First World War, they were not the only country to build early tanks. In addition to early German “landship” type tank-like vehicles, the French too pressed several early tank designs into service. Round two of the scheduled 23-race calendar for this year s championship takes place at the elaborately named Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari circuit in the town of Imola, in the republic of San Marino, surrounded by north-central Italy.
It is named after Enzo Ferrari, the founder of Ferrari, and his son, Allfredo, who died in 1956, aged 24.
Between 1981 and 2006, Imola played host to the San Marino Grand Prix. The first winner in 1981 was Nelson Piquet, and the last was Michael Schumacher in 2006.
