Another controversy has erupted from Thailand Open 2021. After shuttler Saina Nehwal revealed that she had still not received her COVID-19 report with Thailand authorities asking her to shift to a hospital, Kidambi Srikanth shared that he was made to undergo 4 COVID tests since he landed in the country. A series of positive coronavirus tests caused disruption to the first day of the Badminton World Federation (BWF) Yonex Thailand Open, with Olympic bronze medallist Saina Nehwal among those impacted - only to later be cleared to play following further testing.
There was also a shock exit for women s singles world champion PV Sindhu on an eventful day for the Indian badminton team in Bangkok.
A third round of mandatory testing was conducted yesterday, with Nehwal, compatriot HS Prannoy, Jones Ralfy Jansen of Germany and Adham Hatem Elgamal of Egypt all testing positive.
This led to the entire Indian team being told to isolate.

Shuttler Saina Nehwal on Tuesday said that she has not received her COVID-19 test report and was only told by the authorities that she has tested positive for the virus. The shuttler also said that rules state that the report should come in by five hours, but this was not the process followed in her case. I still didn t receive the covid test report from yesterday it s very confusing and today just before the warm up for the match they tell me to got to hospital in bangkok . saying that I m positive ..according to rules the report should come in 5 hours.. @bwfmedia, Nehwal tweeted.

HS Prannoy had also tested positive along with Saina, but upon a re-test of their samples, Prannoy tested negative but Saina s sample showed positive again.
Saina is in a Bangkok hospital in isolation for at least 10 days. She will be re-tested on Tuesday and has been withdrawn from the tournament. Along with Saina, her husband and colleague
Parupalli Kashyap has also been withdrawn from the tournament because of his proximity with Saina. He is currently self-isolating in the hotel room.
