The year is 1992 and novelist Dan Sharp is attempting to solve a 20-year-old mystery in which three lighthouse-keepers disappeared from an offshore lighthouse tower beyond Landâs End in Cornwall. In his quest for information he approaches the three very different women that the men left behind, and we hear from all six characters in turn. With its double chronology and multiple points of view, this book could easily have become confused and confusing in the writing, but Emma Stonex has a strong grip on the structure of her atmospheric and evocative story, and that keeps the various slight hints of the supernatural from getting out of hand.
