Editor’s Note: Safety Moment is a monthly feature written by Kyle Black of Seneca Meadows.
At Seneca Meadows, wearing PPE is part of our everyday ritualistic behaviors as we head out the door for our daily work. What is PPE? PPE is personal protective equipment. For us our basic PPE is hard hat, safety glasses, high visibility vest / clothing, work gloves and steel toed work boots. There are times when other enhanced personal protective equipment is necessary such as ear protection or specialized shields. At home PPE is just as important for everyday tasks especially with spring cleaning on our minds and honey do lists.
McInroe’s approach starts with a ‘Safety Moment’
Chris McInroe joined Perlo Construction in 2005 as a project manager and advanced to senior project manager before being named project director in September. During that time, he has been instrumental in improving the company’s safety culture.
The initiatives he has championed include building safety into Perlo’s “Mock Project” training platform for newly hired project managers and engineers, and improving Perlo’s pre-construction meetings by adding several safety-related questions and considerations.
McInroe represents the company’s Project Manager Group as a Safety Committee Team member; spearheads the implementation of its Construction Athlete Program, a daily mobility, flexibility and strength regimen for field employees; and leads companywide training in the importance of “soft skills,” such as communication and body language, in the construction arena.
