amount. those are important victories for the film and for deaf representation. but winning an oscar is something different altogether. it would signal to the industry, and really to the whole world, that deaf representation matters, and that it is economically viable. deaf actors have long struggled to get mainstream work the more success coda has the more likely that is to change. actress marlee matlin, the first deaf performer to win an 0scarfor1986 s children of a lesser god, could potentially score a best actress nomination for her role in coda as the mother who struggles to connect with her child. she is considered on the fringe of the oscar race at the moment, but troy kotsur, who plays the father, is considered a safer bet to be nominated for best actor and maybe even win. kotsur has worked steadily in film and tv for the last two decades, but coda is his biggest role yet and deaf and disability activists are rooting hard for his success. i think if troy kotsur were nominated
Since my last “
Licensing Expert” article for SBC News, the stand-out issues in UK gambling regulatory terms have been (a) the circumstances giving rise to the UK Government’s 20 April announcement of an independent review into the collapse of Football Index and (b) the sudden unexpected departure of Neil McArthur from his position as Chief Executive of the Gambling Commission within just a few days after the Football Index operating licence was suspended. You can read here the full details on what led up to that suspension and all that has happened since then.
The above announcement states that an ‘independent expert’ (a) will lead the review and (b) in addition to establishing how Football Index collapsed and identifying lessons to be learned from that, will look at the decisions and actions of the Gambling Commission with a view to the findings being made public in the summer. Those findings will also form part of the evidence for the purposes of the government’s rev
i m curious that if they could find a middle ground to wrap his wrists and at the same time not impeach him, they d grab it but it doesn t exist, does it? doesn t exist now. so what they re left kind of in a position where they have to choose. this is the choice that donald trump forces on every republican. it s the same choice he forced in 2016. right. what i found in 2016 is if you were a republican, it was probably a safer bet to go with him than it was to start alienating. ron johnson. the critics are still going to be against you and the republican base will be against you. i thought rich lauer made an interesting point earlier this week, betsy, when he said you re not going to have 20 republicans vote to convict because that divides the party. it was sort of he was implying it s either got to be all of them or none of them. i think that s right. you know, they either all go off the cliff together or not. i think it s possible there will be one or two republica
ainsley: the media ran with that saying there was going to be a recession coming up. listen to this. recession jitters, president trump said to be rattled as economic alarm bells caused a wild week on wall street. there are indicators that the u.s. could be headed for a recession. there are some rough waters ahead, maybe a recession. fears of a coming recession spiked on the heels of a key economic indicator what s called inverted yield curve. yield curve has inverted every before every u.s. recession since 1955. they say recession on horizon. recession. recession. recession. steve: you get the idea a lot of recession talk. inverted yield curve for a period charles payne said it was less than 24 hours. for a short period of time the rate you got paid on short-term bond was actually more than the long-term bond. usually you put your money not long-term bond because it s a safer bet. people were so worried about the future the short-term was better.
week before. the dow is now down about 4% this month. the nasdaq down 7%. this week some big tech names report earnings. you have amazon, microsoft and google and snapchat the parent company as well. investors are looking for a safer bet. think banks, utilities and drug makers. numbers on economic growth also out. on friday the government releases a look at third quarter gdp. in the second quarter the u.s. economy grew a strong 4%. president trump campaigned on a promise of 4% annual growth. we ll see if the third quarter delivers. thanks. we have these new images just into cnn showing a new angle of journalist jamal khashoggi entering the saudi consulate. you can see his fiancee standing with him as he s scanned. he is seen later standing inside the gate of the consulate as the
