Congressman Hal Rogers
Somersetâs Congressman Hal Rogers, along with other House Republicans, has called out President Joe Biden for his âjob-killing executive orders on Americaâs oil and gas industries.â
In a letter to the President released on Wednesday, Rogers and the Republicans in the House expressed their strong opposition to Bidenâs decision to cancel the Keystone XL pipeline â a move that Rogers says will cause thousands to lose their jobs during a pandemic.
The letter specifically targets the Presidentâs action on January 27 titled, âExecutive Order on Tackling the Climate Crisis at Home and Abroad,â which places an indefinite moratorium on new oil and gas leases on federal lands and water.

CASPER, Wyo. (AP) Three Wyoming lawmakers in Washington have proposed legislation to block the Biden administration from ordering a moratorium on new federal leases to energy companies.
Republican Sens. Cynthia Lummis and John Barrasso and Republican Rep. Liz Cheney introduced the three bills on Thursday in response to an executive order issued by President Joe Biden a day before, the Casper Star-Tribune reported.
Biden issued the order on Wednesday, directing the Interior Department to stop providing new federal leases to oil and gas companies to provide the agencies with time to conduct “a comprehensive review and reconsideration.”

(Washington, D.C.) â Wyoming Congresswoman and House Republican Conference Chair Liz Cheney (R-WY) issued the following statement after introducing two bills, âThe Safeguarding Oil and Gas Leasing and Permitting Actâ and, âThe Safeguarding Coal Leasing Act” this morning. These bills would prohibit any moratorium on federal oil and gas leasing or permitting or coal leasing unless a joint resolution of approval is enacted by Congress.
The executive actions from the Biden Administration banning new leasing and permitting on federal land endanger our economy and threaten our national security. The legislation I am introducing today would safeguard against these damaging orders, and prevent the job loss, higher energy costs, and loss of revenue that promises to come with them. These bills will defend the interests of the people of Wyoming and our nation, and I will work with partners in Washington to push for their consideration.
(Cheyenne, WY) âGovernor Mark Gordon has issued the following statements in support of bills introduced today, January 28th by Congresswoman Liz Cheney and Senator Cynthia Lummis that challenge President Bidenâs executive order halting federal oil and gas leasing.

âI commend Congresswoman Cheney for her continued leadership to protect the people of Wyoming. The introduction of the Safeguarding Oil and Gas Leasing and Permitting Act, along with similar legislation for coal, underscores her support of Wyoming. The leasing moratorium announced by the Biden administration today shows that traditional Wyoming energy industries are being targeted by climate-only activists. By sponsoring these bills, Cheney shows that Congress needs to participate in these brash, unilateral DC-based actions.â
