YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - The Arizona Governor’s Office of Highway Safety awarded the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office a grant totaling $37,460.
This grant will be used for the purchase of equipment to enhance impaired driving detection, prosecution, and promote safe driving habits.
A 16% tax imposed on recreational marijuana sales by the Smart and Safe Arizona Act to fund health and public safety programs across the state generated the grant funds.
The grant monies will be utilized to purchase two Intoxilyzer 9000 instruments which will replace the current Intoxilyzer 8000 instruments. Intoxilyzer instruments are used to determine blood alcohol content levels in motorists suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol.
