Introducing 9 Black creatives who are doing the damn thing

Alexia Henry, a dance junior and small business owner. Ace Walker, a communication design sophomore and artist.  Evan Blaché, a music studies sophomore and artist. Markila Caldwell, an accounting senior and fashion business owner.  Sahara Smith, a health science senior and owner of Sae Cured It Nails. Seth Jones, a communication design senior and author/photographer.  Andrew John, a theater performance and production junior and actor.  Alexis Patterson, a mass communication senior and YouTube blogger.  When brainstorming what we wanted to do for the Creatives portion of our year-long project focusing on Black students at Texas State, there were difficulties trying to decide the format.

Benefitting from the work of trail-blazing women who came before them, Black female entrepreneurs at Texas State continue to make their mark and build businesses to accommodate people of color on campus. Rya Russell, a health science senior and owner of Hair by Ry, says she began braiding hair her freshman year as a way to make extra money while in school full time.
