If elected Florida governor, Nikki Fried promises to declare a “housing state of emergency” to go after landlords for price gouging and to push for doubling the homestead property tax exemption on owner-occupied residential property in Florida.
The “Affordable Florida for All” tour will include a stop in Orlando on Wednesday to tour an affordable housing complex. Crist cited the “exploding” rents and housing prices in the state, which reached record levels in 2021. “Florida, economically, is hitting some high notes,” Crist said. “But they’re only available to those in the high end. And so we have a problem, in that it’s not affordable for the middle class.”
