Sadiq Sanjrani, the youngest and first chairman of the Senate from Balochistan, was elected to the top-most position of the Upper House for the second time on Friday, drawing in felicitations from the government side and criticism from the Opposition.
Sanjrani emerged as the winner of the Senate chairman election after defeating Opposition candidate Yousaf Raza Gillani in a controversial race. Eight votes cast during the election were rejected.

Sadiq Sanjrani was elected as chairman Senate for the second time on Friday after defeating Opposition candidate Yousaf Raza Gillani by six votes.
Eight votes cast during the election were rejected including seven in favour of Gillani.
Taking to Twitter, government lawmakers congratulated the newly elected chairman of Senate, saying that Pakistan had won .
Senator Faisal Javed Khan tweeted in excitement right after the result was announced and thanked the people for praying for the government-backed candidate s victory.

A bitter battle is underway in Pakistan for the chairmanship of the Senate. The candidates for the election include Sadiq Sanjarni, the youngest ever chairman of the Senate in the country. and Yousaf Raza Gilani, the country's former prime minister and the newly elected senator from Islamabad.
Fearing another embarrassment, Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan had filed a petition in the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) stating that Gilani's victory in the Senate polls should be declared null and void as the elections were not transparent.
