HYDERABAD: Five people were killed and 13 others injured when a blast took place in a recently repaired pole-mounted transformer (PMT) of the Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (Hesco) and it spilled burning oil onto people in Latifabad Unit-8 on Thursday, the second day of Eidul Azha, officials said on Friday.
It is the second such incident in the city in a short span of a month in which Hesco’s PMT spilled burning oil onto people.
The fresh incident took place on Thursday evening near Akbari mosque Latifabad when Hesco staff was attempting to energise the transformer after getting it repaired.

HYDERABAD:
Occurring as a successive reminder of the dangerously fragile and hazardous transmission system of Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (HESCO), a blast in a pole-mounted transformer (PMT) in Hyderabad on Thursday claimed five lives.
Some 18 other persons were injured with fatal burn wounds in the explosion, which was accompanied by the spilling of hot oil from the transformer.
The incident occurred in Latifabad Unit 8 in near Akbari ground.
The injured patients were shifted to the burns ward at Liaquat University Hospital in Hyderabad. However, due to the dearth of facilities, 17 of the injured persons were referred to Karachi.
