The "mom influencer" whose Instagram video went viral in December 2020 after falsely claiming a Petaluma couple tried to kidnap her kids at a Michael’s store, was found guilty Wednesday in a Sonoma County courtroom.
The trial for the social media influencer accused of faking a kidnapping in Petaluma begins Tuesday morning. Katie Sorensen said she was shopping at Michael's when a couple tried to take her kids, but police later concluded it was a lie.
Katie Sorensen is charged with three misdemeanors related to filing false police reports. She claimed a Petaluma couple tried to abduct her children, but investigators say the allegations were made up.
Katie Sorensen, accused of falsely reporting a kidnapping in Petaluma, is expected to appear at a Sept. 9 diversion hearing, which could ultimately lead to her charges being dismissed.
