CLEVELAND There were two major fires in less than 24 hours in Cleveland: A blaze Wednesday night badly damaged a popular health clinic, while another Thursday affected two homes. A lot of people depend on that clinic, Hough resident Curtis Wilson told 3News. The parking lot was full on a daily basis.
With more than 240 employees, NEON has provided vital services to Hough residents since it opened in 1974 such adult medicine, pediatrics, optometry, dentistry, behavioral health, and even COVID-19 vaccines regardless of ability to pay.
Wildcat Canyon, Near Cheesman Reservoir On May 15, the conservation group Wild Connections was planning to hike eight miles to a remote section of the South Platte River, but rain, snow and dangerous trail conditions forced the group to push back its event. The area is upstream of Cheesman Reservoir, and is endangered by illegal motorized vehicles tearing the landscape apart. The eight-mile hike includes 1,200 feet of elevation gain, and the event will be limited to ten people. Salida has been working to improve a variety of environmental matters, focusing on energy consumption, greenhouse gas emissions and more.Â
Sustainability goals set by the city are producing tangible results, including the development of an electric vehicle fleet program.
Salida Administrator Drew Nelson said city council created goals and strategies for the EV fleet program and other resources and services at a higher level, all through the local sustainability committee.
This fleet program came to life in 2018, courtesy of $27,000 in grant dollars from the Colorado Energy Office.
Alongside inspiration from the energy officeâs EV charging infrastructure program, a collective motivation came from city officials and Mayor P.T. Wood, as well as from the sustainability goals set forth by council, said David Lady, Salida Public Works director.
