For many, Great Sacandaga Lake was refuge during pandemic

For many, Great Sacandaga Lake was refuge during pandemic | The Daily Gazette SECTIONS By Charlie Kraebel | Shares3 The outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 led to the cancelation of annual events around the Great Sacandaga Lake and put a lot of businesses at risk. But the Great Sacandaga Lake region was also helped, according to Fulton-Montgomery Regional Chamber of Commerce President Mark Kilmer, because many of the houses dotting the reservoir’s 115 miles of shoreline are second homes and camps for out-of-town people, many of them hailing from New York City and northern New Jersey. That area was the worst-hit in the country during the early part of the pandemic, so that meant many folks who have properties around the lake came up earlier than normal, Kilmer said. Working and going to school remotely meant these families could take advantage of the “natural social distancing,” he said, as opposed to being stuck in their city homes.

Linda Hinkle to be featured artist | News, Sports, Jobs

Jan 22, 2021 GLOVERSVILLE Linda Hinkle will be Micropolis Cooperative Art Gallery’s featured artist for January and February. Her show is titled “Artwork Never Quite the Same.” Unfortunately, because of the pandemic, Micropolis will be unable to hold a Meet the Artists reception, but everyone is invited to visit the gallery to see the Hinkle collection of art, as well as new work by all Micropolis artists. Educated at the University of Michigan, Hinkle earned a BFA in Design and began her career as art director at WOUB-TV, the PBS affiliate at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio. For more than 45 years Linda worked in Fulton County as a freelance designer, developing materials for print, products for manufacture and sites for the web. Just a few years ago, she began to study mixed water media. Learning to be free with paint rather than controlling with a computer was a challenge for her.
