In roughly a year since COVID-19 reached Brevard County, Brevard Public Schools has reported over 2,000 COVID-19 cases.
The school district has seen 2,385 COVID-19 cases since Aug. 31, and saw an increase of 439 COVID-19 cases in February. Its most recent report, from Feb. 26 to March 2, included 37 cases, eight of them employees and 29 students.
During that time period, 393 employees and students quarantined due to exposure from the virus. Over two-thirds (298) quarantined due to contact with cases within the school district, and 95 people quarantined due to contact with a case in the community or their household.

MELBOURNE, Fla. – An elementary school janitor is facing charges after Melbourne police say he tried to discipline a student in the cafeteria.
Officers were called to Sabal Elementary School on the afternoon of Jan. 29 in reference to a battery, according to the Melbourne Police Department. When officers arrived, they spoke with the student’s parent who said their child got into an altercation with a school employee.

MELBOURNE, Fla. - A janitor at a Florida elementary school was arrested after allegedly dragging and hitting a student on school grounds, police say.
Officers with the Melbourne Police Department responded to a call about a possible battery at Sabal Elementary School on Friday, January 29.
According to an arrest affidavit, a father picked up his son from school due to his child getting into an altercation with a school employee. The child had several marks across his face and neck that were red in color and swollen, officers observed.
