Friday afternoon, transit officers arrested 18 year old Saadiq Teague on charges of criminal gun possession, at New York City’s Port Authority train station.
No word yet on why the Columbus, OH teen was in NYC, but according to his mother he wanted to see Times Square. His mother has described him as a good kid, recent graduate of a top high school and free of a criminal record.
Teague was charging his phone in the train station as his AK-47 assault rifle lay in front of him. The gun was unloaded, but 17 rounds were found in a clip in a nearby paper bag. An empty shell casing was found in Teague’s backpack.

The mother of an 18-year-old Ohio man caught with an AK-47 in a midtown Manhattan subway said her son wasn’t planning any violence he just thought it would be okay to visit New York with an assault rifle in tow.

NEW YORK (AP) A Ohio man arrested for bringing an unloaded, military-style rifle into a Times Square subway station was found sitting with the three-foot-long weapon lying on the floor, inches from his foot, according to a newly released court document.
A New York City police officer said he recovered an ammunition magazine containing 17 rounds from a paper bag that was also sitting on the floor near Saadiq Teague, along with a loose round. An empty shell casing was found inside the 18-year-old s backpack, according to the document released Saturday during Teague s arraignment on three felony weapons possession charges.
