this program is made possible by contributions to your pbs station from viewers like you. thank you. captioning sponsored by wpbt susie: good evening, everyone. tom hudson is off tonight. the wall street slump continued today the major stock averages fell sharply. jeff, this is all about the debt crisis in europe and the falling euro. jeff: susie, investors were having second thoughts about that european bailout package. the dow tumbled 162 points; it had been down as much as 250 points earlier in the day. the nasdaq fell 47.5, or 2%, and the s&p 500 lost 21. and volume on both the n.y.s.e. and nasdaq picked up on the selling. susie: in the currency markets, the euro slipped to an 18-month low against the dollar, falling below $1.25. there are fresh questions about what the troubles in europe will mean here in the u.s. suzanne pratt reports. reporter: new york s time square may soon see a drop in european visitors, particularly if the euro continues to slide against
