race or background he does seem to be able to go after he does seem to be able to go after people of color with a particular enthusiasm. i mean, it s calling after condition american football players sons of bitches and people in nigeria live in huts and come from s-hole countries and have aids. he does have a particular zest for going after people he perceives as different or weaker in someway. and yet, there are people of color that are his supporters he holds up and praises and talks about all the time. sure opportunity and what really matters to him is what it is. barack obama was a demagogue. i believe nancy pelosi is a demagogue. where we are in the polarized politics, the country is leading us to a place this is the rhetoric we have and both sides are playing into it. we saw the house floor voting on this is a demagogue thing, too.
accide execute them. or talk about s hole countries. president has to look inward. that s why this resolution and the rez thati put in. 494. captures his words but it also captures the essence of the goodness of america. i don t know the definition of racism. but i know that your words that you have offered to the american people are racist. you said this was a bipartisan vote. the truth is only four of the republican colleagues supported it. i think we have four and one independent. that s a good number. because obviously, my good friends unfortunately rather than seeking to bring us together, they chose to walk in the drum beat of president trump. that s unfortunate.
that did not go down. it hasn t gone down when he was calling countries s hole countries and so he feels emboldened to continue to hammer at this message really vilifying people of color and immigrants, frankly as a good campaign message. you also have republicans who see racism as some sort of third rail that they cannot address head on for fear that there will be some backlash. you see republicans, people like senator susan collins and senator mitt romney, going all the way around to say, well, the comments were over the line, and really refusing to engage on the issue of racism. you have mitch mcconnell who repeatedly just says the president is not a racist, and won t even take a personal note to react how he would feel if somebody slurred his own wife. for some reason, addressing racism is something republicans are terribly afraid to do, and
over the course of his candidacy and presidency, there are filled with examples of him trying to separate whites and persons of color and to somehow den grate people of color, whether he is saying it is a s-hole in some of the countries or calling mexicans rapist coming across our border. these are truly despicable descriptions. and at some point, he s an emperor with no clothes and when are we going to say that he is naked. what are you hearing, congresswoman, excuse me getting choked up, wolf. the republicans members in private, are they defending the president s remarks. i think they re uncomfortable. i ve only spoken to a few of them. there is a level of discomfort by the president continuing to legislate by tweeting and they are fearful, though, of crossing him. that is what is so troubling. i mean, if we re not people of
haven t before. essentially saying, if you vote for him, then you re a racist. but what s the likely effect of that on those very voters? will it shame them in holding the president accountable or make them bristle at being called racist? you know, it is so hard to say at this point. phil rucker pointed out earlier that where kevin mccarthy tried to make this a race about idology. and that s rational and acceptable as he framed it, socialism versus freedom. if you have a problem with these four women, tell me what they said and your problem with it. that s not what he s doing. this is overt racism. right now the president is engaged in a very risky strategy because he is actually turning it into a binary which i don t think, obviously, most americans are comfortable with. and that is, you are either with a vile racist, and i don t say that lightly. the president has demonstrated over and over again, starting with the central park five through birtherism through all of through the s
