Professor berry is an associate professor of history and african and African Diaspora studies, and a fellow at the university of texas at austin. She is the author of swing the sickle. She is also an awardwinning editor of enslaved women in america, and encyclopedia, and in slavery in savannah. In addition to her written an editorial work, she has appeared on radio and Television Shows including National Geographic explorer, the tavis smiley show, cspan, and npr. She is an advocate for public history and served as one of the technical advisors for the remake of roots, the miniseries produced by a e. Her scholarship has been supported by the National Endowment for the humanities, the American Association of university women, and the university women, and the college of philadelphia.
