Lisbon teen charged with attempted murder in stabbing

AUBURN A Lisbon man was charged Wednesday with attempted murder in the January stabbing of a Lisbon juvenile.

An Androscoggin County grand jury handed up the felony charge against Matthew Newton-Fortin, 18, of 244 Lisbon St., Lisbon. The charge is punishable by up to 30 years in prison.
The grand jury also charged him with elevated aggravated assault, which also carries a maximum punishment of 30 years in prison.
Newton-Fortin has remained at Androscoggin County Jail since his arrest in lieu of $75,000 cash bail.

LISBON The medical condition of a 17-year-old stabbing victim from Lisbon was upgraded Thursday from critical to fair, a spokeswoman at Maine Medical Center in Portland said.
The teen, injured Tuesday night on Beech Street in Lisbon, was rushed to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston where he was stabilized before being taken to the Portland hospital Wednesday.
A Maine State Police spokeswoman said Thursday that the agency’s Major Crimes Unit-South had been investigating the incident due to the severity of the boy’s injuries. The unit investigates homicide cases that are prosecuted by the Maine Attorney General’s Office.

LISBON An 18-year-old local man involved in stealing a bucket loader in 2016 and driving it down the turnpike was charged Wednesday with stabbing of a 17-year-old boy from Lisbon, police said.

Matthew Newton-Fortin, who is facing a charge of elevated aggravated assault, was taken by Lisbon police to Androscoggin County Jail in Auburn at 4:45 a.m. Wednesday and was being held in lieu of $25,000 cash bail. The charge is a felony, punishable by up to 30 years in prison.
