In the much-anticipated 800-meter final, Team USA athlete Athing Mu went out from the starting gun to lead the field for the first 600 meters. Kenya's Mary Moraa was close behind, not letting Mu get away as she held on in her slipstream. Great Britain's Keely Hodginkson brought out her signature kick and came past Mu in the inside lane.
Arkansas triple jumper Jaydon Hibbert produced the farthest distance in World Championships qualifying history with a second round leap of 58 feet, 1 inch (17.70) to earn the only automatic qualifying mark for Monday’s final.
