he says his agency doesn t share information about ongoing matters. let s get right to cnn justice correspondent jessica schneider. this tension between the lawmakers and the inspector general has been going on for a while, but it seems to be escalating. it s an ongoing battle. we re seeing this escalation, between two top democrats, bennie thompson, carolyn maloney, with the dhs ig and now they re cuesiaccusing the ig of obstruction. is this goes back to the claim that the ig failed to notify congress that these texts were gone from the secret service from that period around january 6th. right after that, thompson and maloney demanded he recuse himself from any investigation into the secret service. now they re taking it a step further, saying he really hasn t cooperated with them in the past several weeks so they re writing this in the letter they just sent today. they re saying, in response to the committee s requests, you have refused to produce responsive documents a

that releasing their full reasons for searching mar-a-lago would cause, and i quote, significant and irreparable damage. the justice department now urging a judge not to unseal the affidavit that justified the fbi search over the mar-a-lago home. a document, according to the d.o.j., that serves as a road map to the ongoing investigation including who federal investigators are talking to. saying that it includes, and i want to quote this one, highly sensitive information about witnesses, including witnesses interviewed by the government. that is, witnesses, not witness, witnesses, plural. according to the former chief of the justice department s counter intelligence section who oversaw the investigation of hillary clinton s handling of classified documents, that plural, witnesses, means multiple people told tell doj there was still classified information at mar-a-lago. multiple people. i m going to speak to david in a moment. the justice department also is arguing that redacti
them to the federal government, but despite all of that the fbi still recovered 11 sets marked as classified documents when they did the search last monday. that included documents, john, that were marked at every level of classification in the system, including the most sensitive types of documents that are not to be represent anywhere but in special secured rooms called skiffs. those seized boxes are evidence in an ongoing criminal appropriate plus the justice department will look at all of the interactions that investigators had with trump s team over the past several month and that s going to be all factoring in as they decide whether anyone should be charged with a crime. no one has been charged at this time. there are a lot of questions about exactly what these documents pertain to. two house committees have asked for a classified briefing as well as a damage assessment from the intelligence community and trump for his part, he is indicating that his team could try to c
what if the main goal of all of this was just to get that stuff out of mar-a-lago? well, i think that s a question that s on everybody s mind and certainly from where the justice department sits, this was these are these were top secret, classified documents, some of the nation s most, you know, privileged, sort of secrets about national security and military matters and the justice department s top priority in this case was just getting those back. and it s sort of an open question where the investigation heads now but we know that investigators are just beginning to sort of look at the stacks of documents that they have, they have more than 20 boxes to go through so this is going to be a process that takes quite some time. sand it would make sense that they were so worried because this is not really a secure facility. you have had arrests there of foreign nationals who were up to questionable activities. well, you know, one of the main questions that the justice d
