A $30,000 group III race that was in jeopardy in Southland is now back on track to be run on March 31. An upcoming race day has been moved from Winton to Wyndham enabling the New Zealand Kindergarten Stakes to be held in eastern Southland. The race was in jeopardy of not being held this season when the Wyndham Harness Racing Club was only allocated one race day licence for 2020-21. Club president Russell Ferguson is delighted Harness Racing NZ, the TAB and Sires’ Stakes Board approved the March 31 licence being transferred from the Wairio Trotting Club, which race at Winton, to Wyndham.
Most of the homes would be apartments and there would be some terraced homes, he said. “These will be across various price points, and a mix of housing types, providing KiwiBuild and market homes.”

Fire cews are battling a scrub fire north of Invercargill.
A large scrub fire at Ryal Bush, near Invercargill, has been contained and Fire and Emergency New Zealand is beginning to scale back its operation, a FENZ spokesperson says. A fresh crew of firefighters will be brought in to keep watch overnight. Forty firefighters have been battling the fire, measuring 200 metres by 20 metres, on Makarewa Browns Rd since late afternoon on Friday. At 8pm a helicopter with a monsoon bucket was still being used, along with a digger to get to difficult areas. The firefighters were from the Hedgehope, Invercargill, Wallacetown and Drummond brigades.
