DUBAI, March 8, 2021 The Covid-19 pandemic and its impact are a stark reminder of the urgency needed to step up action towards gender equality and women empowerment, writes Emmanuel Hategeka, Ambassador of the Republic of Rwanda to the United Arab Emirates. Despite the fact that they have been disproportionately impacted by Covid-19, women have once again demonstrated their courage, strength and resilience in the pandemic preparedness and response everywhere. This year, it is against the backdrop of a devastating health and economic crisis, resulting from the global Covid-19 pandemic that we mark the International Women’s Day (IWD).
ABU DHABI, 8th March, 2021 (WAM) Rwanda and the UAE share a common vision on women empowerment, according to Rwandan Ambassador to the UAE.
In a statement marking International Women’s Day, celebrated annually on 8th March, Emmanuel Hategeka said, "Today, we celebrate women in leadership positions across national, regional and global institutions."
He cited the recent election of Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, a Nigerian-American economist and international development expert, as the Director-General of the World Trade Organisation, and Rwandan Economist Dr. Monique Nsanzabaganwa as the vice-chairperson.
