Part of century-old Wellington landmark makes rare appearance on the market

Plimmer Emporium, built in 1917, was initially the Rutland Private Hotel. It was also once home to nightclub Slack Alice, restaurant Toad Hall and record store Chelsea Records. In 1997, it became a combination commercial and residential building designed by architect Roger Walker. For the past 30 years, two units now up for sale have been owned by Joanne Watson, who has run Urban Sanctuary, a beauty therapy and day spa, from the site. DIAKRIT/SUPPLIED The first floor is a 90sqm apartment. Watson no longer wishes to be a landlord, so is selling the units and moving her business to another site nearby.
