Local Memorial Day events and parades planned for the weekend

South Bend Tribune Memorial Day is Monday, a time to honor those who died while serving in the U.S. military. Many of the area Memorial Day events that were called off last year because of the pandemic are now returning. Here s a list. Parades •  Osceola  At 8 a.m. Monday, the Osceola Memorial Day parade will travel west on Lincoln Way to Grand Boulevard. Army Sergeant Jerry Williams is the Grand Marshal. •  Elkhart  At 2 p.m. Monday, the Elkhart Memorial Day parade will begin near the downtown Post Office and end at Lexington and Waterfall Drive. •  Goshen  At 10 a.m. Monday, The Goshen Memorial Day parade will start at Jefferson Street, in front of the Police Department, then move to Main Street, to Pike Street, to N. First Street, and will conclude at Oakridge Cemetery with a final ceremony.

Pianist Kim in concert today in Middlebury

MIDDLEBURY — The Crystal Valley Concert Series presents pianist Minji Kim at 3 p.m. today online and live at the Middlebury First United Methodist Church, 720 S. Main St. Her program includes Beethoven’s Piano Sonata No. 7 in D Major, Opus 10, No. 3; Poulenc’s 10 Improvisations; and Prokofiev’s Piano Sonata No. 7 in B-flat Major, Opus 83. A native of Seoul, Korea, Kim won top honors in both the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra Competition and Chung-Ang University Competition. She currently teaches at the University of Michigan, where she is pursuing her doctor of musical arts degree. She also was a finalist in Elkhart’s 2019 Robert B. Beardsley Piano Prize Competition presented by Ruthmere Museum.
